Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a knife to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a traffic accident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

He ran into the officer who lost balance and dropped to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being continually attacked with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a open target, ending the confrontation to an end.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sgt Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his neck and more wounds to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced slash wounds.
Authorities said Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his fellow officer's bleeding before paramedics arrived.
