Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Debuts, Revealing Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. In his journey, he meets a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Cosmic Adventure Drawing from Classic Games
Similar to the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Come Back and Grow
The film will see the return of the primary vocal talent, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut around the time of the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
The company has a set of three fresh titles already confirmed for the upcoming year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
