Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and given more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after recent developments were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a invitation to a public vigil that could enable a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the judge said intelligence from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His son, his son Flávio, who works as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.

The senator wrote on digital networks on last Friday: Will you battle for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I invite you to battle with us."

He said the vigil would be so followers could "pray for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our land."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of Justice Moraes's decision was the possibility of Bolsonaro's move to embassies near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a background of arranging to ask for protection through a diplomatic representation", a statement said.

The legal document highlights that the US embassy in the federal district, Brazil's capital, is positioned around 13km from Bolsonaro's home.

International Reactions

His judicial problems have generated frustration from fellow populist conservative United States President President Trump, leading him to impose a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being held in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will experience a custody hearing on Sunday.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to authorize him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also asked that Bolsonaro be allowed to depart his residence for medical treatment, saying he needed regular treatment for pulmonary infections and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was found guilty of orchestrating a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the presidential race to his ideological adversary, Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plot which included plans to assassinate the current president and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was prevented because it couldn't obtain the support of the military leaders. Lula was took office without incident on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, numerous his backers invaded and destroyed official structures in the national capital, Brazil's capital.

The security forces stepped in and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The justices found that the protesters had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, reestablish control and bring him back to power.

At the time, his attorneys called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.

The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the next presidential race.
